Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Kings 5
Solomon and Hiram, king of the city-nation of Tyre, signed a treaty and cooperated to build Solomon’s Temple (v.12). Tyre supplied beautiful and valuable cedar and cypress trees from Lebanon, and Solomon paid for the timber and the labor to cut them down by giving Hiram abundant food and oil (v.10-11).
Concerning the 3 OT houses of worship, I believe we can look at Moses’ Tabernacle as a picture of the Age of Israel; David’s Tabernacle as the Age of the Church. And Solomon’s Temple as Christ’s reign during the 1000-year Millennial Kingdom Age.
Solomon’s Temple was completed around 957 BC, but destroyed by Babylon around 586 BC, then rebuilt about 516 BC, then upgraded by King Herod around 25 AD, and finally destroyed again by Rome in 70 AD. It will be rebuilt and destroyed again in the endtime!
Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Kings 6
This chapter describes the construction of the Temple of Solomon. Let’s look at 3 facts about the Temple.
1) The stones used were all cut at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel was heard during construction (v.7). Solomon’s Temple symbolizes the Millennium, the rest day in the Biblical 7000-year history of the world.
2) If Israel keeps God commandments, God will dwell among His people (v.11-13). Christ will dwell and rule over the world through His temple in Jerusalem during the Millennium (Ezek 40-48).
3) The Temple was overlaid on the inside and outside with pure gold (v.20-35). The Millennial Kingdom will be glorious. It will show mankind how wonderful the earth can be by following Jesus as King.
Let’s look forward to Jesus leading humanity to finally fulfill our glorious calling of ruling the earth!
