Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 119

I felt something in my spirit when I read v.98, “You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me.” When I was in the 5th grade, I had an enemy. He was bullying a girl in our class who was a “haole,” or “Caucasian.”
In Hawaii, we locals often pick on haoles and give them a bad time. Anyway, he was making her cry, and I felt sorry for her, so I told him to stop. He got very angry at me and called me all kinds of names. That day I made an enemy, or rather, he made me his enemy. So, we had a bad relationship from then on.
Looking back at that incident, I realize what made me speak up for that girl was the conviction that we should treat others kindly and not hurt them. Eph 4:32a says, “Be kind to one another,” and Matt 7:12 adds, “Treat others as you want them to treat you” (CEV).
The next year, while playing Little League Baseball, I turned a mistake into a brilliant play (actually, it wasn’t me but God!), whereas, on the same play, my “enemy” on the opposite team made a “bonehead” mistake against me and was scolded by his coach in front of all the spectators! In other words, what he had dished out to the haole girl, he was now receiving from his coach before many people!
Truly, when we study God’s Word, he can make us wiser than our enemies and manifest His glory through us! Let’s love His Word!

Devotion 2 of 2: Rev 20

I was interested in v.5-6, “But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.”
I wanted to know what is the 1st resurrection? How many resurrections will there be? Will all Christians take part in the 1st resurrection of those who will reign with Jesus for 1K years? If they don’t, when will they resurrect? Let’s go over these questions, one by one.
What is the 1st resurrection? It is the resurrection of the martyrs who didn’t compromise to AC (v.4). These will resurrect when Christ returns for the mid-trib rapture. But there will be many others who weren’t martyred who will take part in that resurrection, and also, it will include all from the entire church age. However, I personally believe it will be limited to only the overcoming believers because of the phrase: “they shall reign with Him 1000 years.”
How many resurrections will there be? This is unclear as the Bible does not give details. So, I will present my personal opinion. I think there may be 4 resurrections.
*The 1st if the above-mentioned mid-trib rapture resurrection.
*The 2nd is for those who believe during the 2nd half of the tribulation and who are martyred by AC. When Christ returns to the Mt. of Olives, I believe they will resurrect, although the Bible is silent about this.
*The 3rd is for believers of all ages who were not overcomers from both the OT and NT ages. I believe they will be resurrected at the same time as unbelievers of all ages, which would be the 4th resurrection. This will take place in Rev 20:11-15, after the Millennium.
*The 4th is for unbelievers of all ages, both OT and NT. After resurrecting, they will be judged before God’s great white throne. Their names will not be in the Book of Life, so they will be cast into the lake of fire (v.15).
*Actually, there was another resurrection which took place at the time of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus (Matt 27:52-53). I believe it was only overcoming OT saints who participated in this resurrection.
Let’s seek God to understand more clearly about the resurrections that will take place from now on.
