Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 119

V.49 says, “Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope.” I think this verse applies to Joseph in Genesis. He received a word from God about his calling to be a ruler through 2 dreams in Gen 37. But the opposite of the dreams happened as he was sold into slavery by his brothers (Gen 37:28), then falsely accused of assault by Potiphar’s wife and thrown into prison in Gen 39.
So, Joseph spent 13 long years of being tested by the severe trials which were the complete opposite of his dreams! But I believe he prayed v.49 many times as a slave and a prisoner! In other words, he never gave up on God’s promise to him that he would rule one day!
In one sense, the church in Japan is going through the same trial as Joseph. God has promised we would do the same works as Jesus in John 14:12 and we would see a great endtime revival in Japan in Rev 7:9-14. But we still haven’t seen a major breakthrough in this nation after 165 years of Protestant missions, with Christians only 1% of Japan’s population!
So, do we give up and say we must have misinterpreted God’s Word? It was a great vision, but it looks like revival won’t happen in Japan after all?
No! Rather, let’s be like Joseph and cry out to God: Remember Your word in Rev 7 and John 14, upon which You have caused us to hope! Bring Your Word to pass! Fulfill the promises You have made to Your people! Bring forth revival in Japan and all nations on earth!
God’s Word came to pass in Joseph’s life, and it will happen to us, too! Let’s continue to pray and believe!

Devotion 2 of 2: Rev 18

This chapter describes the fall of Babylon, which is the harlot woman of Rev 17 (17:5). In this chapter, Babylon’s identity as the harlot, or False Prophet, or false religion, is confirmed by v.3a, “For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Fornication = harlotry = worship of false gods.
Babylon’s ID as the False Prophet is further confirmed in v.24, “And in her (Babylon) was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.” The False Prophet will cause Christians to be killed for not worshiping AC’s image or taking his mark (Rev 13:15-17).
However, Babylon’s description in chapter 18 expands her identity from not only the False Prophet, but also to possibly include world trade, capitalism, etc., because of v.19b, “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.’” and other verses (v.3-24).
One sure thing we can say from this chapter is that Babylon will fall during the 2nd half of the tribulation (v.9-10). Let’s pray for many people to come out of Babylon so they can be saved (v.4)!
